Coastal Zones

Sustainable Natural Resources Management

Integrated Coastal Zone Management and Sustainable Fisheries

Coastal zones, home to over 40% of the global population, are increasingly vulnerable to climate change, overdevelopment, and unsustainable resource use. Rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and biodiversity loss threaten both ecosystems and livelihoods. Sustainable coastal and fisheries management is essential to maintaining marine resources and community resilience.

We apply integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) by linking watershed and coastal ecosystem conservation. Our holistic approach strengthens coastal community resilience by connecting ecosystems from reef to ridge. Our work includes restoring mangroves, protecting coral reefs, and implementing erosion control measures to enhance climate adaptation. We promote sustainable fisheries through rotational closures, improved fishing techniques, and community-driven conservation initiatives such as Locally Managed Marine Areas. Additionally, we support value chain improvements from catch monitoring to market access, ensuring long-term economic and ecological sustainability.

By fostering stakeholder participation and applying nature-based solutions, we enhance coastal resilience, protect marine biodiversity, and secure livelihoods for coastal communities, contributing to global conservation and development goals.
