Governance, Peace and Social Cohesion

Access to Justice and Rule of Law

Limited access to justice and weak rule of law systems disproportionately affect marginalised groups, undermine social cohesion, and impede democratic and economic development. Ensuring equal legal protection and the ability to seek redress are essential to building fair, accountable, and inclusive societies.

We strengthen rule of law systems by promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms such as mediation and arbitration to offer efficient, cost-effective alternatives to formal proceedings. We support judicial reform through targeted capacity development for judges, prosecutors, and court staff, ensuring independence, impartiality, and inclusiveness.

Our work includes legislative development aligned with human rights and good governance, institutional capacity building for justice sector actors, and support to transitional justice processes. We conduct research and legal gap analyses, offering evidence-based recommendations to improve legal frameworks.

We empower civil society organisations and vulnerable groups, particularly women, youth, LGTBIQ+ individuals, and victims of conflict, to understand their rights, navigate legal systems, and advocate for justice. Our work enhances transparency, accountability, and equitable access to justice, promoting lasting societal resilience.
