Restoration of Forests and Landscapes
Deforestation and land degradation threaten ecosystems, biodiversity, and livelihoods worldwide. The restoration of forests and landscapes is crucial to reversing these trends, improving climate resilience, and ensuring sustainable land use. Global initiatives like AFR100 and the Bonn Challenge aim to restore millions of hectares of degraded land, fostering ecological and socio-economic benefits.
We support sustainable forest and landscape restoration through afforestation, assisted natural regeneration, and agroforestry. Our approach integrates conservation agriculture, biological and mechanical erosion control, and improved pasture management. We incorporate traditional and indigenous land-use practices while introducing innovations like improved forest seeds, rhizobium inoculation, and low- or zero-tillage techniques. Additionally, we enhance agricultural and forest value chains, linking local communities with sustainable markets.
By improving land tenure security, engaging stakeholders, and strengthening institutional capacities, we ensure long-term success. Our work enhances biodiversity, increases ecosystem services, and supports resilient, productive landscapes that benefit both people and nature.
Our Impact
Madagascar
Erosion Control Programme (PLAE)
By implementing Forest and Landscape Restoration on 45,000 hectares across 25 communes in 6 regions, the land management and revenues for participating communes and farmers improve.
Indonesia
Forest Program III
Improved agricultural and agro-forestry techniques are being applied by farmers in the biosphere of Lore Lindu leading to improved revenues from cash crops (cacao and coffee).
Cameroon
Joint Fund for Forest and Environment (PSFE 4)
Different management models have been improved and are implemented in selected Community Forests by communal actors and private sector partners.
