Food Security and Nutrition

Food security has long been a central focus of development efforts. More recently, this focus extends beyond sufficient food supply to sustainable nutrition, ensuring diets are diverse, healthy, and environmentally friendly. However, economic shocks, conflicts, and climate change are making access to nutritious food increasingly challenging. Currently, three billion people cannot afford a healthy diet, while malnutrition and obesity are rising globally.

We strengthen agricultural value chains to increase the availability of safe, nutritious food. By promoting climate-smart farming, we enhance biodiversity, soil health, and resilience to extreme weather. Expanding access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare improves nutrient absorption and overall well-being. Social programs create income opportunities and improve food access, while policy advice supports governments in developing effective, nutrition-sensitive strategies. Through cross-sector collaboration, we build long-term solutions that integrate agriculture, health, and economic resilience.

By addressing both food security and sustainable nutrition, we ensure that the most vulnerable populations have reliable access to the nourishment needed for a healthy, productive future.
