Sustainable Agricultural Systems and Policies (AgSys)
Current agricultural and food systems are facing many challenges. Climate change, population growth and urbanisation, growing social inequality and conflicts are increasingly putting agricultural and food systems under pressure to adapt. In this context, healthy nutrition is no longer a guarantee.
AgSys Kenya is part of the GIZ Global AgSys Programme and the special initiative: Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems. It aims to strengthen transformation processes, such as policy advisory towards sustainable agricultural systems on a national and county scale, and enhance transnational exchange. The initiative builds upon the experiences, successful practices, and partnerships of German development cooperation and other partners. These are then transferred into the consultation of political reform processes. They cover strong governance structures at both national and county levels, such as effective policy implementation, inclusive dialogue formats and transformative financing approaches that contribute to a competitive agricultural sector, sustainable land and soil management, and improved food security. All measures are designed to advance climate change adaptation and mitigation, and biodiversity protection as effectively as possible. The political partner is the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD).
