Agribusiness Entrepreneurship for Start-Up and MSME Development
The GIZ Private Sector Development and Employment Promotion (PSD) project supports the development of business models in sectors with high potential for job creation. Under this framework, the project Entrepreneurship program for start-up and MSME development, innovation, and job creation in the agribusiness sector aims to strengthen Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Iraq (Baghdad and Basra), promote entrepreneurship and innovation, and provide targeted training to equip young entrepreneurs and MSME owners with skills needed for competitive growth.
The project pursues the use of a bottom-up approach to find niches and segments for potentially successful business activities and to give young professionals prospects for an innovative start-up or employment in an established agribusiness company. Young adults and participants from MSME are selected, trained, and guided to generate and develop innovative business activities that address local problems or demands in the agribusiness value chain.
Participants are linked with the private sector to unlock Iraq’s growth potential. This generates job opportunities for young male and female engineers and technicians, supporting hygienic and environmentally sound agribusiness.
