Peru ProACC
The programme “Adaptation of the Urban Water Sector to Climate Change, with the Participation of the Private Sector” in consortium with GITEC Consult, Germany, aims to ensure that water resource management in the catchment areas of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers (ChiRiLu) is aligned with climate change adaptation goals. It also promotes the involvement of the private sector in related decision-making and financing.
The programme works across four interconnected areas:
Firstly, a monitoring system is established for public and private water users to ensure transparency regarding the water balance, water quality, supply and demand, and existing usage conflicts. Then public and private actors exchange information through committees and platforms and collaborate increasingly on the development of public-private adaptation projects. Afterwards, specific focus is given to initiatives in wastewater reuse.
Finally, both public and private stakeholders in the water sector are made aware of climate change impacts and align their strategies accordingly for effective adaptation.
