Improving the Income Perspectives of Youth-PAMELOT

The economy of western Chad remains underdeveloped, with low levels of training and a scarcity of skilled craftsmen despite existing demand. This, combined with inadequate resources, has made the region one of the most vulnerable and unstable in the country. Increasing pressure on natural resources such as water and land exacerbates conflicts between communes, farmers, herders, host communities and returning migrants, further destabilising the area.

The project addresses the root causes of instability, including poor development planning, a lack of employment opportunities for youth and women, and weak social cohesion - all of which hinder peaceful coexistence. The impacts of climate change, coupled with limited coping mechanisms, contribute to rising levels of malnutrition and poverty.

Dorsch Impact, in consortium with CA 17, has worked on a module aiming to improve conditions for peaceful coexistence in municipalities across the Hadjer-Lamis, Bahr-El-Gazel and Kanem provinces. It focuses on participatory development planning, enhancing income prospects for youth, improving economic opportunities for women, and fostering peaceful conflict management.
