Agricultural Marketing Specialist in Iraq

The current 9th Cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has launched an ambitious economic reform agenda aimed at significantly diversifying the economy beyond its reliance on hydrocarbon revenues. The KRG’s Vision 2020 and Economic Reform Roadmap (2016) identify agriculture as a key sector for regional development and economic diversification. Agricultural reform is considered essential for rural development, food security, and employment generation—particularly for young people and women.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources (MoAWR) has prioritised the development, modernisation, and expansion of the agriculture sector in order to enhance its contribution to economic diversification, job creation, and GDP growth. This will be achieved by strengthening all elements of the agricultural value chain—governance, planning, production, storage, marketing, and consumer engagement—ultimately reducing costs and improving competitiveness.

As highlighted in the 2019 Agricultural Study in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), a major challenge remains the limited skills in marketing and value addition among the agricultural community. In response, the Ministry is continuing its efforts to improve agricultural marketing, identify appropriate markets within the KRI, and increase marketing efficiency to boost sales and income for local farmers.
